The Date That Change Everything
On January 25th, 1964 a small company was established. Two men by the names of Phil Knight & Bill Bowerman (Britannica) created that small company in Eugene, Oregon (Fortune). A company that has taken over the entire world, Nike (Blue Ribbon Sports back in 1964).
In Nike’s first year in business, they made $8,000 USD (Wikipedia), now in 2022, they’ve generated $46.71 Billion USD (Statista). When you compare the net worth of their biggest competitor, Adidas, Nike blows them out of the park. Adidas’ current net worth is $27.75 Billion USD (MacroTrends).
Currently, that small business is a massive multi-billion dollar corporation with over 1,000 different retail stores around the world. Very inspiring.
Brand Endorsement & Collaborations
Nike is known for their amazing sneakers, but they’re also known for its amazing contracts and collaboration with people. Here are some people you might recognize who have a massive brand endorsement from Nike: Cristiano Ronaldo, Tiger Woods, Lebron James, Aubrey Drake Graham (SI), Travis Scott, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan (Wikipedia), and many more (ManOfMany).
Travis Scott is an amazing example of a brand endorsement gone right, Travis alone made $100 Million USD from his Nike sneakers (SneakerFreaker). Wow.
Sneaker Market/Stocks
When you hear the words market or stocks you usually refer to how the brand is doing, currently, one Nike share is worth $105.50 USD. But there is also a market for each and every sneaker, and Nike is ruling that market (StockX).
The most valuable sneakers to purchase are Nike collaboration shoes, not with regular athletes, but Nike shoes that are made with other brands and rappers. Off-White which was founded by Virgil Alboh’s Nike Jordan’s, Dunks, Air Force’s and other collaborative models are worth from $400 to $70,000 USD (StockX). The reason why these shoes are of higher value is that Virgil Alboh has passed away and very few of these Sneakers have been released, and sneaker enthusiasts want to get their hands on and collect them all. “Gotta Catch ‘Em All!”(Pokemon).
But there is more to the Sneaker Market than just that, there are the exclusive shoes that auto-lace themselves, and if you’ve ever watched Back To The Future Part II, you’ll know exactly what these shoes look like. This auto-lacing masterpiece is worth over $200,000 (StockX), only if you can get your hands on a pair.
Freddy Krueger
Finally Freddy Krueger Dunks, these Nike Dunks are exclusive of the exclusive. These Nike Dunks were released on January 1st, 2007. You might recognize the name, Freddy Krueger, the name is a fictional character from the film franchise A Nightmare on Elm Street
(IMDb). When these Nike Dunks released to the public the film franchise A Nightmare on Elm Street and New Line Cinema didn’t like it so they sent Nike a cease-and-desist letter because Nike didn’t have the right to make it a part of their Halloween Pack. So Nike was forced to burn the project and all the shoes, literally. They made employees gather all the Freddy Krueger Dunks and pour gas all over them and set them on fire. But of course, people took some of these dunks with gas on them and waited to sell them. Now if you had a pair of these Dunks, or sold a pair you would be $50,000 USD richer (StockX).
Conclusion
Nike is now a very well-established brand and is in almost every household. They’ve made tons of improvements over the years and they won’t stop there.
That small business in Eugene, Oregon has already taken over the entire world.
